Dr. Sharma trained as an obstetrician and gynecologist in India, UK and Nepal. After extensive practice experience in the specialty, she moved on to a career in management and governance as the Director of Maternity Hospital in Kathmandu and Secretary, Ministry of health and population, Nepal. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists UK, and has served as the Chief of Health and Nutrition program in UNICEF Tanzania for 5 years. She joined CIWEC Hospital in 2018 as the Director of surgical services primarily responsible for enhancing surgical care at the hospital.
