Dr. Thapa, President of the Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN), is a physician specializing in General Practice and Emergency Medicine with MBBS and MD degrees from TUTH, Institute of Medicine, Maharajgunj. He is Medical Director of HAPSA Nepal, Lead of the Nepal Life Savers Program, and a high-altitude volunteer doctor with the Himalayan Rescue Association. Holding both a Postgraduate Diploma in Mountain Medicine (UIAA/ISMM/ICAR) and the International Diploma of Mountain Emergency Medicine from EURAC, Italy, he has led departments of Emergency Medicine and Prehospital Care at Grande International Hospital and HAMS hospitals. An experienced mountain rescuer and researcher on high-altitude illness, he has conducted numerous awareness programs for locals, pilgrims, and trekkers. Outside his medical career, he is a writer, poet, and avid climber, biker, and hiker. Dr. Kamal joined CIWEC in 2025.
